Beijing Enterprises Water Group (China) Investment Co Ltd has granted green perpetual bonds worth no more than RMB 2.8 billion to its qualified investors by public offering. SynTao Green Finance, as a third party verifier, provided assessment and verification to the current bond.    Read more

UN partners with Alibaba for green finance (Shanghai Daily: Sep 5, 2016)
UNEP has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alibaba's financial affiliate Ant Financial Services Group to promote green finance and promote environmental protection initiatives.

Green Bonds

CCDC launches new partnership with Climate Bonds Initiative & CECEP(blue&green tomorrow: Sep 2, 2016)
China Central Depository & Clearing Co Ltd (CCDC) has partnered with Climate Bonds Initiative and CECEP Consulting to launch the ChinaBond China Climate-Aligned Bond Index. As the world's first Climate-Aligned bond index, it will fill a gap in tracking a growing source of bond issuance.

First Chinese green 'covered bond' to be issued in London by Bank of China (CBI: Sep 16, 2016)
Bank of China has indicated that this bond and the covered pool will conform to both the PBOC's Green Bond Guidelines and the international Green Bond Principles, with proceeds being used for its green loans to assets such as wind power plants and polluted water treatments.

Climate change in East Asia caused by China's air pollution, study reveals because it's making goods for the West (SCMP: Sep 8, 2016)
The climate impact caused by manufacturing activities related to exports from developing countries in East Asia is greater than that caused by domestic consumption. China is the largest manufacturer and the largest exporter in the region.

ESG reporting standards - HK 'has plenty to catch up' in compliance (China Daily: Sep 5, 2016)
HKEx introduced mandatory ESG reporting last year as the local bourse aims to catch up with its peers in developed countries. But, many of the locally-listed enterprises are still deficient in their ESG compliance due to insufficient knowledge and expertise in this area.

Global coal power plans fall in 2016, led by China, India (Reuters: Sep 6, 2016)
The amount of coal-fired power generation under development worldwide has shrunk by 14% this year, driven down by China as it struggles with oversupply and tries to promote cleaner energy.

The Chinese stories on financial inclusion (China Economic Net: Sep 19, 2016)

G20 Green Finance Synthesis Report
(Green Finance Study Group: September 2016)

Over the past six months, the GFSG hosted four core meetings, developed the G20 Green Finance Synthesis Report and submitted it to the Third Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. The Synthesis Report comprehensively examines the necessity and challenges of developing green finance globally. It also provides seven voluntary options to overcome these challenges facing green finance development.

(PRI: September 2016)

The guide contains information and case studies on integration techniques that apply to investment strategies including fundamental, quantitative, smart beta and passive investment. It assists asset owners and investment managers with constructing ESG-integrated investment processes and helps asset owners to assess their managers' integration practices.
